Dance Styles

RAD Ballet

Royal Academy of Dance graded examinations are offered at Project Dance. The ballet instructor has her RAD teacher certification. Ballet exams will take place in the spring of 2010. The basis of all forms of dance. Proper technique, posture and those all important "pointed feet" are developed in a Ballet class. There are many methods of Ballet but all have the same basic techniques and over all end result. 2 Classes a week are mandatory for competition classes and exam classes (Grade One-Grade Five)

Jazz

An upbeat form of dance combining rhythms & beats in the music and technique. Jazz dancers movements are big and exaggerated and the best Jazz dancers are those have a strong technical background from Ballet. This is a very popular form of dance and it has evolved throughout the years to include other forms of dance (street jazz, contemporary and many more)

ADAPT Jazz

Syllabus to help dancers create correct technique, alignment ,performance and discipline. The ADAPT program supports competitive values and a sense of accomplishment through an examination process. ADAPT is a combination of barre and centre floor work. The ADAPT jazz program will be taught in each jazz class exam process will depend on the individual dancer.

Acro

A great class to develope strength, core and balance. Acro combines moves of a gymnast and an acrobat and is taught with proper form and technique by a highly trained CDTA certified stage instructor.

Hip Hop

Originally developed in the street, a class that focuses on popular, urban culture..closely related to rap music. This is a fun, upbeat and ever changing and evolving style of dance.

ADAPT Tap

A dance which the rhythm is tapped out by the sound of the dancers shoes. The oldest form of dance...developing rhythm and motor skills. Tap classes are based on the ADAPT syllabus and examinations will be offered.

Contemporary

A form of ballet, developed to emphasize expresses, strength and increase flexibility. A style of theatrical dance that rejects the limitations of classical ballet and favors movement deriving from the expression of inner feeling.

Lyrical

A form of dance where expression through movement is the main objective. Based on both Ballet and Jazz technique.

Musical Theatre

Enacting a story by sound or movement. Broadway show tunes are usually the basis of this class.

Recreational Dance:



Jazz, RAD Ballet, Acro, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical & Stage

Learning, Imagination and fun. Less aggressive approach to dance. Recreational programs are the once or twice a week dancer.

Each dancer will perform in a year end performance at the Chilliwack Arts Centre in June.


Competition Program:



Jazz, RAD Ballet, Hip Hop, Acro, Tap, Lyrical, Stage, Technique Classes & Contemporary/Modern

For the more serious dancer. More hours are spent training and performing. Each dancer will compete 2-5 times throughout the competition season. Travel may be a recommendation for competition.

A discussion with the director must be made to see if your child is ready to move into the competitive program.
